Ridgewood Winery in Birdsboro is highlighting its lineup of upcoming events, including its well-known paranormal experiences, while drawing attention to the property’s long and mysterious history.
Located in Cumru Township, Berks County, the site dates back to the mid-1700s, when it began as a farm owned by Welsh Quaker James Lewis. The main house was later expanded in 1811 after the property was purchased by Jacob Dick and Susanna Lutz, and the location is believed to have served as a stop on the Underground Railroad.
Over the years, the property has gained a reputation for alleged paranormal activity tied to its past. Local lore centers around Jacob Dick, whose death in 1857 under unusual circumstances has fueled stories that his presence—and others—may still linger on the grounds. Reports associated with the site include unexplained disturbances, sightings and other unusual occurrences.
Today, Ridgewood Winery blends its historic setting with modern events, inviting visitors to explore both its wines and its unique atmosphere. Upcoming programming includes themed experiences that highlight the property’s reputation as one of the region’s more intriguing destinations.
