DBAA Launches Shoe Drive

Fundraiser for Youth Sports

The Daniel Boone Athletic Association (DBAA) has launched a new fundraiser that supports youth sports while also helping those in need.

From March 16 through May 16, the organization will be collecting gently worn, used and new shoes as part of the fundraiser. All types of shoes are accepted β€” including cleats β€” as long as they are not skates.

Organizers are encouraging each player in the league to set a goal of collecting 20 to 25 pairs of shoes. The collected footwear will help raise funds for the league while also giving the shoes a second life for people who need them.

Once practices begin, collection bins will be available near the snack bars at Hill Road and Amity Park. Donations can also be dropped off on a porch at 108 Pleasantview Drive in Douglassville.

Those with questions about the fundraiser can contact Ashley Creta at [email protected]

Amity Township Issues Burn Ban

Due to Wildfire Risk

Amity Township officials have issued a burn ban effective immediately due to dry conditions and an increased risk of wildfires.

Under the ban, all outdoor burning is prohibited until further notice, including fire pits, recreational fires, burning yard waste or brush and any other open burning activities.

Township officials say the precaution is necessary to help prevent brush fires and protect the community as well as emergency responders during the current dry conditions.

Amity Township will continue to monitor weather and environmental conditions, and updates will be provided once the burn ban is lifted.

DBAA Issues Final Call for

Youth Sports Sponsors

The Daniel Boone Athletic Association (DBAA) is making a final call for local businesses to become sponsors for the upcoming season.

DBAA is a nonprofit youth league serving more than 400 children in the Daniel Boone community. Sponsorships help offset the cost of uniforms, equipment and field maintenance, allowing the league to continue providing a fun and safe environment for young athletes.

Several sponsorship options are available for local businesses:

  • Banner Sponsorship – $250
A company banner displayed on the outfield wall and recognition on the DBAA website.

  • Team Jersey Sponsorship – $250
Company name displayed on a team jersey along with recognition on the league website.

  • Jersey + Banner Sponsorship – $450
Includes both jersey recognition and an outfield banner.

Sponsors will also have their company logo featured on the DBAA website. Businesses interested in participating can email a high-resolution logo to [email protected] or [email protected].

Checks can be made payable to DBAA and mailed to:

Chase Utley to Join Phillies

Wall of Fame in 2026

Former Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley, a key figure in one of the most successful eras in franchise history, will be inducted into the Phillies Wall of Fame in 2026.

The ceremony is scheduled for Aug. 7 at Citizens Bank Park, prior to the Phillies’ game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Utley will become the 51st Phillie and the 76th overall member honored on the team’s Wall of Fame.

Utley, a six-time All-Star and four-time Silver Slugger, played 16 seasons in Major League Baseball from 2003 to 2018, including 13 seasons with Philadelphia before finishing his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers. During his time in Philadelphia, he helped lead the team to five consecutive National League East titles from 2007 through 2011 and was a key contributor to the Phillies’ 2008 World Series championship.

Known for his intensity and leadership on the field, Utley made one of the most memorable defensive plays in World Series history during Game 5 of the 2008 series, when he pump-faked a throw to first base before throwing home to record a crucial out. He also tied a World Series record with five home runs during the 2009 Fall Classic.

From 2005 to 2010, Utley was one of baseball’s most productive players, hitting 162 home runs with a .911 OPS during that span while averaging 7.6 WAR per season.

Phillies owner John Middleton said Utley’s accomplishments reflect not only his talent but also his work ethic and perseverance throughout his career.

Utley, now 47, recently received 59.1% of the vote in his third year on the Baseball Hall of Fame ballot, keeping him in strong consideration for future induction.

Reflecting on the honor, Utley said being recognized by the Phillies is meaningful and that the organization and its fans will always feel like family.
