Spring Recycling Day Planned

at Althouse Arboretum

Community members are invited to support local nonprofits during the Spring Recycling Day hosted by Green Allies on Saturday, March 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Althouse Arboretum, 1794 Gilbertsville Road in Pottstown.

For $10 per car, residents can drop off a wide variety of items for recycling, with no additional costs. Accepted items include large appliances, scrap metal, microwaves, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, bicycles, clothing, shoes, laptops, tablets and cell phones, along with other household goods.

The event will also collect pet supplies and equipment to support the Animal House Project.

Organizers note that televisions, computer equipment, vacuum cleaners and small plastic appliances will not be accepted.

The recycling event aims to keep reusable materials out of landfills while supporting local nonprofit efforts.

PennDOT Announces $9M Plan

for EV Charging Stations

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced plans to invest $9 million in 12 projects to expand electric vehicle (EV) charging stations along major roadways across the state.

Pennsylvania currently leads the nation in charging stations built through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program, with 30 stations already constructed and 53 more in various stages of planning or construction.

Since the first NEVI-funded charging station opened in December 2023, the network has supported more than 80,000 charging sessions, helping drivers travel an estimated 9.6 million miles while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 2,000 metric tons.

PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll said the new projects will improve access to charging stations and help connect long-distance travel routes with community-based charging options across the Commonwealth.

Among the projects announced is $825,958 awarded to Sheetz in Fleetwood, Berks County, where a new EV charging station will be constructed along Route 222 near mile marker 73.

Birdsboro Street Fair and

Duck Derby Returns May 30

The Birdsboro Street Fair and Duck Derby will return to Mainbird Park on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., bringing a full day of family-friendly entertainment to the community.

The event will feature craft vendors, games, entertainment and food for visitors of all ages. The highlight of the day will be the Duck Derby race at 3:30 p.m., where participants can purchase rubber ducks — or a “Quack Pack” — and cheer them on as they race down Hay Creek for a chance to win prizes.

Organizers say the event continues to grow each year. In 2025, the community helped sell out all of the race ducks for the first time in many years, and organizers hope to make this year’s event even bigger.

New this year, attendees will also have the opportunity to see live ducks on site during the event.

The Birdsboro Street Fair and Duck Derby is hosted by the Boone Area Library, with proceeds supporting library programs and services.

St. Patrick’s Day Brunch

Planned at The Other Farm

The Other Farm Brewing Company in Boyertown will host a St. Patrick’s Day Brunch on Sunday, March 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Guests can enjoy a festive St. Patrick’s Day–inspired brunch menu alongside the restaurant’s full regular menu, offering a mix of seasonal specials and favorite dishes. The event invites friends and families to gather for brunch while celebrating the holiday weekend.

Reservations are recommended, and organizers encourage guests to come hungry, enjoy a drink and bring their Irish spirit for the celebration.

Officials also note that no tickets are being sold for the event, and the venue is not collecting any money in advance. Any posts or messages asking for payment or vendor fees related to the event should be considered fraudulent.
