Boone Area Library Seeks Community Input
for Future Planning

Amity Township officials are encouraging residents to take part in a community survey aimed at shaping the future of the Boone Area Library.
The Boone Area Library Board has launched the survey as part of its long-term planning efforts. Community members are invited to share feedback on library spaces, services, and programming. The input gathered will play a key role in guiding decisions that impact the library’s direction and growth in the years ahead.
Residents with questions about the survey can contact Library Director Rachel Stewart by email at [email protected].
Community participation is seen as an essential step in ensuring the library continues to meet the needs of Amity Township and surrounding areas.

School Bus Driver Charged With DUI After Transporting Boyertown Students

A Colebrookdale Township woman faces multiple charges after police say she was driving a school bus under the influence while transporting Boyertown Elementary School students earlier this month.
Kelly L. Weber, 46, was charged by Douglass Township Police in Montgomery County with driving under the influence and numerous counts of endangering the welfare of children. As of Wednesday, court records indicated she had not yet been arraigned.
Officers were dispatched around 4:10 p.m. on Feb. 6 to the area of Jackson Road and Third Avenue following reports of a school bus being driven erratically with children on board. Witnesses reported the bus nearly struck other vehicles and a telephone pole.
Police located the bus in a snowbank near Second Avenue and Gilbert Road. According to the affidavit, the responding officer observed signs of impairment, including glassy eyes, confusion and erratic behavior. Weber failed a field sobriety test, and a portable breath test indicated a blood-alcohol level of 0.292%. In Pennsylvania, the legal limit for operating a school bus is 0.02%.
Authorities said they found an empty 50-milliliter vodka bottle in Weber’s jacket pocket, along with a partially full bottle and another empty bottle inside her purse. A receipt showed three bottles of vodka were purchased earlier that morning.
Twenty-six students, some younger than 6, were on the bus at the time. Police ordered the driver off the bus in front of the children, who were later transferred to another vehicle. Some students told officers they were frightened by the driver’s behavior, and one child exited at the wrong stop out of fear.
Following the incident, Boyertown Area School District Superintendent Dr. Scott Davidheiser notified families that the driver, employed by Bally-based Quigley Bus Service, had been taken into custody during an afternoon drop-off route. The district said it is reviewing transportation procedures with the contractor. The driver has been suspended and will no longer operate routes for the district.
